This is my fourth Blog Series, and I’m so thrilled that I haven’t missed a week yet. Well, anyways, I decided to also branch out to people beyond Metro Manila, and also approach creatives that I follow on Instagram internationally, or locally just like Gillian Uang who is based in Cebu. I always love the content she comes out with. I don’t know her personally, but I can see how much work she puts behind her work when I check her feed. So naturally, I was curious to see how she was like beyond her Instagram feed so I asked her to share a few shots of her desk and bag. And also answer questions for my blog. Hopefully I get to meet her in person, but for now read the rest of the article about her.

My name is Gillian Uang and I am an Interior Designer by Day and Blogger by night. In the most literal sense.

Where do you live? Cebu, Philippines

How would you describe your home and design style? I live with my parents so I don’t have much say with how our home is styled especially since my parents are very Chinese. But personally my design style’s more on open space planning and having a feeling of calmness with lots of natural light coming in if I had my own place.

Where do you get your inspiration from when you decorate and furnish your home? I’m very O.C. and very particular with arrangements so usually I go for function and having a clean layout that fits all my needs in my personal space.

What is a home to you? A home should reflect your personality and besides looking the part, it has to feel like home too. Even with great design if the people you love aren’t with you it will never feel like home. That’s why I love keeping a lot of memorabilia that take me back to moments with loved ones.

Where do you spend most of your time at home? I stay in my room. I work a lot, besides my day job and blogging I’ve been recently accepting interior projects on the side so I stay in the confines of my room. On rare occasions though, when my schedule has cleared up my sisters and I always stay in our parents’ room to chill and bug everyone.

What object is your most prized possession? This heart shaped necklace my Dad gave me when I was 10.

Is there a particular item or something about your home that has an interesting story? My working table at home is actually a console which I converted to a desk!

Are you currently changing or renovating something in your home? nope

I always make it a point to clean my room every time I leave. I prefer cleaning on my own since I want my things arranged a certain way. I have a difficult time leaving the house when I know my room isn’t organized.

Describe a typical day in your current life. I wake up by 6:30 to prep for work. I’ve always believed that when you dress the part, work will always follow when you feel confident . I rarely eat breakfast during weekdays since I’m always in a rush so there must be coffee when I get to the office. Work starts by 9 for me but I’m usually in the office early around 8-8:15. Cleaning my desk is part of my morning ritual. I can’t focus when everything is a mess. Before the clock hits 9 I transfer everything from my i.calender to written form while I slowly tick off all my necessary to do lists.  The day usually involves me coordinating with different departments. Lunch usually involves a good book or a funny video.  Around 6, that’s when I start editing photos for the blog and trying to formulate a post for the next day when time permits. Dinner usually involves date night with the boyfriend or scheduled dinner with my family. Rinse and repeat over the weekdays.

Why did you choose your profession? I’ve always had a keen eye with design and style and it frustrates me sometimes when I can’t arrange a few things a certain way. I thought this profession would be perfect since it’s basically what it specializes.

What does your perfect day look like? A day without phone calls would be the dream.

What is your dream job, and why? My dream job is to build my own interior firm. Right now, I’m still trying to learn the ropes and slowly registering my business but hopefully I’ll be able to create something that I can call my own.

What’s your greatest achievement and how has it shaped you? So far, the blog has been something I’ve been constantly working on and I’ve seen it grow from its humble beginnings. Someday I wish to say that my greatest achievement will be leading my own design firm and creating a special line of home furnishings and accessories in line with my personal taste.

What motivates you to succeed? My parents. They’ve always supported me with my decisions and since they are very confident that I can do a good job that pushes me to do more too.

What are the 3 things that make you most happy right now? My Family, My Friends and My Freelance Interior Projects

What are the 5 passions you have? Interior Design and Fashion. That’s really it.  Oh! And constantly figuring out my Instagram feed.

What are your hobbies and interests other than what you do? Since I’m a blogger I try to learn the ropes under photography. And I secretly do DIY things with my sister.

What are you most grateful for? I am grateful for my circle of people. Even though they’re not a lot I know that I can always count on them to tell me the truth and guide me to right path.

What are your 3 greatest accomplishments?

Graduating College

Passing The Board

Starting The Blog

What has been your biggest challenge? Facing criticism. It isn’t easy but I learned to turn the other cheek and focus on what is important.

What does your life say about you? That I’m a hardworking lady. My work speaks for itself

What is your life quote? God is in the Details – Le Corbusier (thus the blog name)

How do you define love? Love is when you accept someone the way they are, even with their flaws and work on it together.

How do you want to be remembered? As the strong willed lady with a go-getter attitude who is as bull headed as her zodiac sign.

What is the thing you most wish you were great at? Singing. I love to listen to my weird music.

If you could do anything you wanted right now, what would it be? Book a ticket and stay in Palawan for a week!

If you could master one skill you don’t have right now, what would it be? Cooking. My boyfriend loves to eat.

If you could speak another language, which would it be and why? French. Cause it sounds sexy.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be? Greece!

If you could time travel, would you go to the past or the future? Future. No point looking at the past.

If you could live anywhere, where would it be and why? Singapore, where they have room for interior and architectural design.

If you could have dinner with anyone in history, who would it be and what would you eat? Le Corbusier . Beer and pizza. We are that close.

If you could have the answer to any question, what would that question be? Where do all the aliens live?

What’s your favorite blog?

What do you think makes a good blog? Besides photos it has to be relatable. Rather than over hyping your post you just have to create one that is true to your personality rather than being someone you are not.

What makes your blog successful? I don’t know if it’s a success but what I like about it is it doesn’t meet the usual standards recent bloggers are doing. I post whatever I feel like and whenever I feel like it.

What advice would you give to new bloggers? Be yourself.

List 5 people who have influenced you and describe how.

Grandmother. For teaching me the value of being well dressed.

Dad. Who has always been supportive about me working under the creative side.

Vincent Van Gogh. Man! That Starry night painting really got me thinking.

Rachel Zoe. The first lady to get me BANANAS over fashion.

Yoyo Cao. Effortless style.
